The Blues will start the season without Logan Mailloux.
St. Louis placed the 23-year-old defenseman on injured reserve Monday and said he had successful surgery on his right hand Sunday. Mailloux will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, which puts his next checkpoint in late November.
The team posted the update Monday morning:
Tyler Tucker is going on IR too. St. Louis listed him as week-to-week with a lower-body injury, so the Blues are down two defensemen four days before opening night.
Mailloux got hurt in Saturday’s preseason finale against Chicago. Cole Smith tripped Philip Broberg in the first period, and Mailloux went right after him. The two traded punches before the officials got in, and Mailloux never returned for the second period.

Surgery came the very next day. Team physicians from Washington University Orthopedics handled the procedure.
It’s a rough break for a guy who was supposed to take a bigger step this year. Mailloux put up five goals and eight assists in 67 games last season, his first full year in the league, while averaging 16:46 a night.
Losing him takes one of the Blues’ better offensive defensemen out of the lineup to start the year:
Over the weekend, the Blues had already started patching the blue line. The Blues recalled Adam Jiricek from Springfield on Sunday and claimed Justin Barron off waivers from Nashville the same day.
GM Alexander Steen explained Monday why Barron made sense with Jiricek already up.
“We brought Adam (Jiricek) up, and we felt organizationally we had depth on our left side. This helps create more depth on our right side.”
Barron shoots right, just like Mailloux, so he fits the spot Mailloux leaves behind. The injured defenseman came over from Montreal in the July 2025 trade that sent Zachary Bolduc back to the Canadiens.
The Blues open Friday in Dallas and visit Colorado on Saturday, both without Mailloux and Tucker on the back end.
