JJ Peterka is making Boston’s summer trade look awfully good.

The Bruins forward scored 3:21 into overtime Friday, beating Stuart Skinner five-hole on a breakaway to give Boston a 4-3 win and spoil the Winnipeg Jets’ home opener at Canada Life Centre. It’s his second game-winning goal in as many games after he also had the winner in Tuesday’s 3-0 shutout of the Rangers, which came on his first goal in a Bruins sweater.

Watch Peterka end it in overtime:

David Pastrnak sent him in alone. Peterka was asked about the play after the game and handed most of the credit to his linemate.

“I knew when (Pastrnak was) getting that I just have to take off and he’ll find me on the way,” Peterka said. “He kind of got the guy pulled to him, and an unbelievable pass. I know when the puck is getting in his hands, I just try to take off.”

Hampus Lindholm talked about what Peterka’s speed does to a defense on the rush.

“It’s almost like he smells blood when he sees half a breakaway,” Lindholm said. “I’ve never seen someone so fast, and then obviously he knows how to finish it off. He doesn’t make it look easy, but people don’t understand how hard it is, what he does. So we’re glad to have him on our side.”

Here’s the overtime winner from the Bruins’ angle:

Boston needed a late push just to get to overtime. Winnipeg led 3-2 after Mario Ferraro ripped a wrist shot past Jeremy Swayman with eight seconds left in the second period, his first goal as a Jet.

Swayman went to the bench for an extra attacker late in the third, and Elias Lindholm tipped in a Pastrnak shot from outside the right circle with 1:38 remaining to tie it 3-3.

James Hagens and Hampus Lindholm also scored for Boston, with the 19-year-old Hagens picking up his first NHL goal in the first period. Pastrnak and Nikita Zadorov each had two assists, and Swayman made 30 saves.

Skinner was sharp in his Jets debut, stopping 26 shots. He’s the starter in Winnipeg with Connor Hellebuyck suspended since Sept. 16 for failing to report to training camp after requesting a trade.

Dylan DeMelo also scored for the Jets, and Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist. Connor’s power-play goal made it nine straight season openers with a goal, the longest streak in NHL history.

Peterka and the 2-0-0 Bruins head to Minnesota to face the Wild on Saturday.
