Tanner Jeannot and Nicolas Deslauriers gave Carolina a real heavyweight fight.
The Bruins forward and the Hurricanes enforcer dropped the gloves in the first period Tuesday night in Raleigh and traded punches for well over a minute. Fans inside Lenovo Center were up for all of it.
Take a look at the full fight:
Boston was already up 1-0 on a Pavel Zacha goal when the gloves came off. Jeannot had picked up a hooking penalty earlier in the period, and the game matched the top two teams in the standings.
Carolina came in 9-2-2 and Boston came in 9-2-1, so it was a first-place matchup that got an old-school moment. Jeannot has three points in 12 games this season. Deslauriers has three points in eight games, one of them a game-winner.
Deslauriers is 35 and has been doing this for a long time. The Kings drafted him in the third round in 2009, and he has since played for the Sabres, Canadiens, Ducks, Wild and Flyers before landing in Carolina. We saw his hot mic moment after a fight on opening night.
It wasn’t the only fight of the night. Matt Boldy and Mikhail Sergachev dropped the gloves in the Wild-Mammoth game later on:
