Ivan Miroshnichenko’s agent says the winger and the Capitals are in this together.

Dan Milstein told DFO Insider on Wednesday that his camp is working closely with Washington to find the 22-year-old a new home. It is the first time Milstein has spoken publicly on the trade search.

Milstein was asked about the situation and was upfront about the numbers problem in D.C.

“He’s a very good young player, very promising with superstar potential. Unfortunately, or fortunately for Washington, they have way too many guys, way too many bodies. And this season, he cannot be playing every single night.”

Miroshnichenko has dressed for three of the Capitals’ 14 games this season. He scored in the season debut against Montreal and has sat for most of the games since.

Milstein said the goal is a landing spot where his client plays in a top-six role, and he hopes it happens in the near future. Watch Miroshnichenko in that debut:

Elliotte Friedman first reported that Washington gave Miroshnichenko permission to explore a deal, and we laid out how that played out then. Here’s his note:

Since then, Blackhawks and Canucks interest has surfaced, and Washington has wanted at least a first-round pick back. That matches where the Capitals took him, 20th overall in 2022.

Milstein also described how these talks work. He said his side builds a list of clubs where Miroshnichenko could get real minutes, and Capitals general manager Chris Patrick calls around from there. The $925,000 cap hit, which runs through next season before he becomes a restricted free agent, makes him easy for a buyer to fit.

Milstein said the process usually stays quiet, but a call or email to 31 other GMs tends to leak. Miroshnichenko is a 22-year-old with 46 AHL goals in 141 games who wants to play every night.
