The Islanders are handing the paintbrush to their fans.

The team announced Wednesday it is launching a fan-driven design contest for its 2027-28 third jersey, the first time an NHL franchise has let its supporters create an official sweater. Here’s the announcement:

A digital design tool went live the same day. It hands fans historic logos and patches, the official team fonts, and a full color palette to work with.

A “paint-by-number” setup keeps every entry inside the NHL’s jersey templates, so nothing gets tossed for breaking league specs.

Those historic logos are the fun part. The old marks are all in the kit, which means the polarizing Fisherman logo from the mid-90s is back on the table if enough fans rally behind it.

Fans have until July 24 to submit. A team committee trims the field to five finalists, then a public online vote in early August crowns the winner.

The winning designer walks away with a signed third jersey and tickets to a 2027-28 game to watch the sweater debut on the ice. Check out the call for entries:

New York is not planning much roster turnover this summer. GM Mathieu Darche already said he will not move Mathew Barzal or Bo Horvat, so this contest might be the biggest change fans get a direct say in.

Whatever wins the vote becomes the first NHL sweater a fanbase actually drew up.
