Houston’s biggest hockey party has a date.
Hockey Day in Houston returns for year four on March 20, 2027, again at Saint Arnold Brewing Company with an 11 a.m. start. The free, family event brings in NHL, WHA and pro hockey alumni, runs youth street hockey on the lawn and puts a full slate of games on the screens.
Organizers announced it with a frozen theme:
The save-the-date graphic ices over a photo from a past event, with the group’s mascot mugging for the camera while kids run a street hockey game on Dallas Stars boards behind him. The caption leaned into the forecast, promising a “chilly” first day of spring in Houston.
Attendance keeps climbing. Roughly 4,000 turned up in year one. Last March, more than 6,000 packed the brewery, and another 1,000 took part in the Houston Hockey Hall of Fame banquet and youth tournaments over the same weekend.
Money has followed the crowds. The event has raised more than $110,000 for local hockey organizations and handed out 16 scholarships through a partnership with The Howe Foundation, named for Gordie and Colleen Howe.
New for 2027 is the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, the group that chases and manages major events for the city. Chief operating officer Holly de Beer explained why the authority signed on.
“Hockey Day in Houston captures so much of what makes our city special, with our passionate fans, strong community support, and a growing appetite for sports across every level.”
Jennifer Streeter of Sporting News reported the date and the sports authority’s role.
Event co-chair Lance Rosenberg talked about how far the event has come in three years.
“What started as a bold idea in 2024 has become a Houston tradition. Every year the crowds get larger and the enthusiasm gets louder, and our fourth annual event will be no exception as we continue to show why Houston Is A Hockey Town.”
All of it lands while the league weighs Houston and Austin as candidates for a 33rd franchise. The NAHL’s Houston Bulls open their first season this fall, and the college, girls and sled programs that fill out the event roster keep growing alongside them.
March 20 hands Houston one more day to make its expansion case in front of 6,000 people.
