Igor Chernyshov put the Sharks’ second straight overtime win on his stick Saturday night.
The young winger one-timed a Macklin Celebrini feed past Anton Forsberg’s glove 3:18 into overtime, giving San Jose a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings at SAP Center. It was his second goal of the night.
Watch Chernyshov’s overtime winner:
Celebrini did the heavy lifting on the play. He pushed the puck up the middle of the ice and slid it over to Chernyshov in the left circle, and the one-timer did the rest.
Chernyshov was asked about the winner after the game and kept his answer simple.
“(I saw the) net and just tried to score,” Chernyshov said. “(Celebrini) did a lot. I mean, I think all our team did a lot in this game, and like that’s why we won.”
That’s two overtime winners in two nights for San Jose. Luca Cagnoni scored his first NHL goal in OT to beat the Panthers in Thursday’s opener.
The Sharks have now won their first two games of a season in overtime for the first time in franchise history. They’re 2-0-0 for the first time since 2021-22.
Los Angeles struck first on an Adrian Kempe power-play goal, but San Jose took over in the second period. Tyler Toffoli tied it with a power-play tap-in off a feed from Ivar Stenberg, the No. 2 pick in the 2026 draft, for Stenberg’s first NHL point.
Check out Stenberg’s first career assist:
Kiefer Sherwood made it 2-1 at 9:52 after picking off a cross-ice pass and ripping a wrist shot from the high slot. He wasn’t done once the puck went in, shoving a Kings player in the middle of his own celebration.
Take a look at Sherwood’s goal and celly:
Nolan Allan’s five-hole wrister pushed the lead to 3-1. Quinton Byfield answered on the power play with two seconds left in the second.
An early third-period backhand from Chernyshov made it 4-2. The Kings still clawed even, with Erik Haula and Artemi Panarin scoring to force overtime.
The Sharks captain finished with two assists. That makes Celebrini the fifth player in Sharks history to open a season with back-to-back multi-assist games, and the first since Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski in 2012-13.
Yaroslav Askarov stopped 31 shots, and the Kings dropped to 0-1-1 after losing their opener 8-4 to Colorado.
Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky was asked about the win and made it clear he wants more from his group.
“We won the game, that’s good, but we gotta get going here,” Warsofsky said. “We can put the puck in the net, but we’re trying to win a lot of hockey games and go do something in the spring. And you have to play a certain way, or you won’t. We can’t just rely on skill.”
