- The Hurricanes’ X account posted a sad cheesesteak photo with a “wit or witout tears” caption right after sweeping the Flyers
- Jackson Blake’s overtime winner in Game 4 sent Carolina to the Eastern Conference Final at 8-0
- Read below for the troll heard around Philly and how the Canes joined a five-team club with their playoff start
The Carolina Hurricanes finished off their sweep of the Flyers Saturday night, then went straight to social media for dessert.
Carolina’s account posted a photo of a sad-looking Philly cheesesteak with the caption: “Do you want it wit or witout tears?” The “wit or witout” line is how you order onions on a steak in Philly, and the Canes leaned all the way into the bit after Jackson Blake’s overtime winner ended the series at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
That post hit timelines minutes after the Canes punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final with a 3-2 Game 4 win. Blake scored his second of the night at 5:31 of OT to wrap a 4-0 series sweep that nobody in Philly is making a “wit or witout” of.
Through eight playoff games, Carolina is perfect. The Hurricanes are just the fifth team in NHL history to start a postseason 8-0.
Watch the OT goal and the rest of Game 4:
The Hurricanes’ social team has spent April and May poking at every opponent it has eliminated. This one might be the cleanest hit of the bunch, mostly because it lands on the one food Philadelphia treats like religion.
Now Carolina waits. Buffalo and Montreal are tied 1-1 in their second-round series, and the winner draws the Canes in the East Final. Plenty of rest is on the way before puck drop.
