The Carolina Hurricanes are on the Stanley Cup for good now.
The trophy came back from the silversmith with 52 fresh names etched into it, the players and staff who beat the Vegas Golden Knights in June. Carolina shared the reveal on Thursday.
The Canes showed off the new silver:
One name on the band will look familiar to Carolina fans. Jordan Staal captained this team to the title, two decades after his older brother Eric helped the franchise win its first Cup in 2005-06.
Eric’s engraving from that run became part of Cup lore. The silversmith first cut it as “STAAAL” with an extra A before catching the slip and correcting it.
Jordan’s spot needs no fixing. He anchored the middle of the lineup, killed penalties, and walked away with the Conn Smythe at 37, the oldest playoff MVP in league history.
Carolina closed out Vegas with a 3-0 shutout in Game 6 to grab the second championship in team history. Rod Brind’Amour’s group finally broke through after years of deep runs that ended short.
Relive the moment the Canes lifted it:
Next the Cup hits the road. Every player and staffer gets a personal day with it through the summer, starting this month, before it heads back to the Hall of Fame.
Fifty-two names, and a whole lot of North Carolina driveways about to host hockey’s oldest trophy.
