The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions again. Carolina shut out the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena, closing out the series 4-2 and winning it all for the first time since 2006.
Taylor Hall got them going with the game-winner in the first period. Brandon Bussi handled the rest, turning aside all 22 shots for his first career playoff shutout in the clinching game.
Watch how Carolina closed it out:
Jordan Staal carried the load all series and walked off with the Conn Smythe Trophy. The captain scored six goals in the Final and took home playoff MVP honors. We broke down his record-setting run separately.
This is the second title in franchise history. The first came in 2006, when Rod Brind’Amour wore the C. Twenty years later he won it again from behind the bench.
Carolina missed the playoffs for nine straight seasons before Brind’Amour took over. They have not missed once since. Eight years of building finally paid off with the franchise’s biggest night.
The wait is over in Raleigh. The Hurricanes sit on top of the hockey world for the first time in 20 years.
