- Flames goaltender Ivan Prosvetov signed a one-year deal with Avangard Omsk of the KHL
- Wranglers defenseman Artem Grushnikov is joining CSKA Moscow, the club where his career began
- Read below for the rights swap that greased the move and what both did in Calgary’s system
Two members of the Calgary Wranglers are taking their careers back to Russia.
Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov signed a one-year deal with Avangard Omsk, and defenseman Artem Grushnikov is joining CSKA Moscow. Both spent last season in Calgary’s AHL system and will play in the KHL in 2026-27.
Prosvetov’s KHL rights were traded to Avangard to get the deal done, with forward prospect Maxim Sklokin heading back to the CSKA organization in the swap.
The goaltender struggled with the Wranglers last season. He went 9-12-2 with an .887 save percentage across 25 games while splitting starts with Arsenii Sergeev.
This isn’t new ground for him. Prosvetov spent 2024-25 with CSKA and was far sharper over there, posting a 20-16-2 record and a .920 save percentage as a starter for the Red Army.
The KHL’s English account welcomed him back:
Grushnikov is making a similar return. The defenseman is headed to CSKA, per Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey.
Dallas drafted Grushnikov in the second round in 2021. He turned pro with the Texas Stars in 2023, then landed in Calgary as part of the February 2024 three-team trade that sent Chris Tanev to the Stars.
He never broke through with the Wranglers, managing eight points in 136 games over two seasons. Now he goes back to the club where he came up.
The two exits trim a couple of names off Calgary’s minor-league depth chart. The Flames have been shuffling their European pipeline all summer, including loaning prospect Theo Stockselius back to Djurgarden.
