Theo Stockselius is staying in Sweden a little longer.
The Flames loaned the 18-year-old forward back to Djurgarden of the SHL for the 2026-27 season, the club announced. Stockselius wanted another year at home, and Calgary obliged.
Calgary signed the Swede to a three-year entry-level contract back in May. He went 54th overall to the Flames in the 2025 draft, a second-round center who came up through Djurgarden’s system.
Last season showed why another year overseas fits him. Stockselius tore up Djurgarden’s under-20 league, putting up 16 points in 11 regular-season games and 20 more across 11 playoff outings.
Sweden’s top league was a different animal, though. He managed just one assist in 19 SHL games against grown men, so another year of those reps is the goal.
He’ll probably bounce between the two levels again, drawing top-line minutes in junior and spot duty against pros in the SHL.
Because he’s staying overseas, his entry-level deal slides. The contract will still have three years left heading into 2027-28, so Calgary keeps his window right where it wants it.
Development camp this month was for the Flames prospects already on this side of the Atlantic. Stockselius gets his work in overseas instead. If Djurgarden’s season ends early enough, he could turn up with Calgary or the AHL Wranglers before next summer.
