Evander Kane stayed quiet all summer. He isn’t anymore.
The 35-year-old winger responded Monday afternoon to Kurtis Gabriel’s podcast comments about their season together in San Jose. Kane never typed his name.
“I can’t wait for the day I decide to share ‘my truths.’ The only difference? Mine will come with facts, receipts, and the actual truth.”
Then came the part that read like a warning to a lot more people than one former teammate.
“For now, I’ll simply say this: a lot of people have become far too comfortable speaking publicly while relying on my silence. Enjoy it while it lasts.”
He signed off by saying there are plenty of bombs with plenty of names attached, and that everything will speak for itself when the time is right. Here’s the post:
Gabriel played one season alongside Kane, in 2020-21. He went on the San Jose Hockey Now podcast over the weekend and described a teammate who strolled into meetings late in flip-flops and a tracksuit, and a room that eventually stopped wanting him around. We ran through those comments earlier Monday, including the line about Kane being “a typical bully.”

Kane wasn’t blindsided by any of it. Gabriel messaged him on Instagram the day before the clips ran, told him what was coming and offered to sort it out privately or on the air. Kane opened it and never wrote back.
None of this is playing out while Kane has a job to protect. San Jose terminated his contract in January 2022 over a COVID-19 protocol violation, Edmonton picked him up weeks later, and Vancouver followed. He’s an unrestricted free agent now, and his market slid to the league minimum earlier this month.
Training camps open in a couple of weeks. Kane says the names are coming whenever he decides to start talking, and any general manager weighing a minimum-salary flyer on him just got one more thing to weigh.
