- Dylan Larkin called the “We Want Larkin” chants in Montreal “interesting”
- He still has a trade request in and no Canadian team on his list
- Read below for his full quote and where his trade situation stands
Dylan Larkin heard the Bell Centre chanting his name, and he took it as a compliment.
The Red Wings center was asked after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the Canadiens about the “We Want Larkin” chants that rained down early in the game, which started early in the game, per Daily Faceoff.
“It was interesting,” Larkin said. “I never would’ve imagined that in this building in my career. But they’re passionate fans. In my opinion, it’s the best atmosphere in hockey, and they’re knowledgeable, and they love their team, and that’s how I read into it.”
Sportsnet’s Eric Engels posted the full answer from the scrum:
Larkin gave nothing away about Montreal as a destination. He praised the fans and the building and left it there.
That fits where his trade situation sits. Larkin asked Detroit for a trade in June, lost the captaincy in September, and has a full no-movement clause on a contract that runs through 2030-31 at $8.7 million per year. Any deal needs his approval.
His list of approved teams has grown since camp. Vegas, Minnesota and Florida were first. Then Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said it is closer to eight teams, adding Colorado, Washington, Dallas and Tampa Bay. We broke that down at the time:
No Canadian teams are on it, which is why the chants were more of a fan statement than a real trade signal. We covered the chant itself earlier Saturday, and the Friedman list has the full breakdown.
Detroit sits last in the Atlantic at 1-3-1, and Larkin has a goal and an assist through three games since returning from an upper-body injury. The Canadiens could use a second-line center behind Nick Suzuki, and they have the assets to pay for one.
Larkin is staying put in Detroit and answering questions about his future every night.
