Devon Levi needed a bounce-back game. He got one, and he had some help from a guy who hasn’t even suited up for Edmonton yet.

The Oilers goalie stopped 19 of 20 shots in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place. Afterward, he gave a lot of the credit to Frederik Andersen, the reigning Stanley Cup champion who’s rehabbing a knee injury and has been working with him behind the scenes.

Levi was asked what it’s been like having Andersen around.

“Freddy has been awesome so far,” Levi said. “Some great conversations with him, a lot of support from him too. I’ve never really had a veteran goalie on my team in the goalie system, so having his support, he’s been through so much. Hearing what he has to say, his leadership also has been super helpful too. So I’m super happy he’s around.”

Thursday was a different story. Levi got the win in that wild 9-7 game in Vancouver, but he only made 15 saves on 22 shots. Edmonton led 8-2 before he gave up a late goal in the second and four more in the third.

The 24-year-old explained how he handled that one.

“I personally walked away from the Vancouver game just with the win, that’s all I took from the game, just turn the page and get to work the next day,” he said. “Nothing changes. It’s not easy, but I’ve definitely been through harder.”

His best moment Saturday came at 7:38 of the third with the game tied 1-1. Jordan Eberle got a point-blank look, and Levi sprawled across to make the stop. It went to review before officials confirmed the puck never crossed the line.

Check out the save:

Leon Draisaitl won it with 2:27 left when a Ryan Shea dump-in bounced off Connor McDavid’s knee and right onto his stick in front. McDavid finished with a goal and an assist, and rookie Owen Michaels scored for the second straight game.

Take a look at the go-ahead goal:

Mike Babcock opened his postgame availability with a joke, saying “We didn’t give up a touchdown.” The Oilers coach also pointed to Andersen’s influence on his young goalie.

“I thought Freddy Andersen did a heck of a job with him the other day, he was talking to him about tightness, and Freddy’s been through it, lived it,” Babcock said. “Freddy is 37 and won the Stanley Cup and to have a guy like that in your organization, that can share his experience with a young guy, I think it helps him.”

Edmonton acquired Levi from Buffalo on July 1, the same day it signed Andersen. The plan was a three-goalie setup with Tristan Jarry, but Andersen isn’t expected to make his Oilers debut until at least December.

He didn’t play a single NHL game last season, spending all of 2025-26 in Rochester. Now he has a couple of months to show Edmonton he can handle a real share of the net. Saturday was a pretty good start on that.
