The Minnesota North Stars packed up and left for Texas in 1993. They showed up at SummerSlam anyway.
CM Punk walked out at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday night in a custom green-and-gold North Stars bomber jacket, with matching trunks and boots underneath, for his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes.
Look at the crest and you catch the swap. Where the North Stars had their arrow-N logo with a star on top, Punk had a “CM” sitting under the star instead.
A No. 20 sat on the back, marking two decades since his WWE debut.
Punk skipped his entrance music on the way down the ramp. Alfred Konuwa of Forbes wrote that he led Minneapolis in an “it’s clobberin’ time” call before Cult of Personality finally blasted through the stadium.
Minneapolis was the right room for it. The North Stars played there from 1967 until 1993, when the franchise moved to Dallas and became the Stars.
Hockey returned to the state in 2000 with the Wild, and that old color scheme has lived on in their alternate sweaters ever since. Bill Guerin has spent this summer on less nostalgic work, still trying to get a Quinn Hughes extension done.
He kept the belt, too. Randy Orton returned and got involved late, and Punk beat Rhodes to hold onto the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Dan O’Leary of NHL.com handed out one more prize for the outfit, naming Punk the 2026 Norris Division winner. The North Stars spent their last 12 seasons in the Norris before the league retired the name in the 1993 realignment, the same offseason the team left town.
Rhodes showed up dressed as Guile from Street Fighter. In Minnesota, that still lost the room to a bomber jacket.
