NHL talent is returning to the Winter Olympics next year, and Team Canada will have the best of the best suiting up in Italy.

The reigning 4 Nations champions announced the first six players of their roster on Monday, and it’s nothing short of spectacular.

Take a look:

You love to see it. Connor McDavid headlines the list, but Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Brayden Point, and Sam Reinhart are a handful of elite NHL players as well. It’s exciting to see that Sid The Kid will suit up for Team Canada at least one more time after starring for his country at the 4 Nations in February.

This is the first time that hockey’s best will compete in the Winter Olympics since 2014. It’s a long time coming, and we’ll surely feel some of that same 4 Nations energy.

McDavid, who is competing for a Stanley Cup right now with the Edmonton Oilers, reacted to the news on Monday.

Via NHL.com:

“Another incredible honor,” McDavid said Monday. “Incredibly honored to represent my country at the biggest sporting event in the world. You think of the Canadian players that can be named to that team and to be selected again, it means a lot, obviously.”

McDavid is, of course, the best player in the world, who scored the winner in the 4 Nations Final against Team USA. However, every single player who has committed to Team Canada so far is a game-changer.

The Americans, meanwhile, also announced their first six players. Auston Matthews, Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, and Quinn Hughes are all set to play for their country in the Olympics.

Finland is the current champion in men’s ice hockey at the Winter Olympics, going undefeated en route to gold in 2022.
