Mike Commodore still has plenty to say about Mike Babcock.
The former NHL defenseman went on Jason Gregor’s show on Sports 1440 to weigh in on Edmonton’s interest in his old coach, and he didn’t dress it up. Commodore branded Babcock “a documented bully” and “a documented predator.”
Watch Commodore’s full conversation with Gregor:
Edmonton is getting close. ESPN reported the Oilers are nearing a deal to make Babcock their next head coach.
Not everyone wants this to happen fast. The NHLPA has asked the Oilers to hold off until its investigation into Babcock is finished.
Gregor doesn’t buy the move either:
Babcock hasn’t coached an NHL game since 2023. He resigned from Columbus before the season even started, days after the NHLPA opened a look into claims that he pressured players to hand over their phones and show personal photos.
Commodore played for Babcock in Detroit and has been one of his loudest critics for years, going back to Babcock’s run in Toronto and his short, messy stay in Columbus. This week’s comments are nothing new from him.
There’s a 2008 Stanley Cup on Babcock’s resume, plus a win total that ranks among the highest in league history. Commodore’s point is that none of that was ever the problem.
