Cole Hutson picked a good time to get hot.

The Capitals defenseman spent part of his offseason at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, and on one swing he dropped a hole-in-one. The NHL grabbed the clip and passed it around.

Watch Hutson’s ace:

Not a bad way to kill time before your first real NHL camp. Hutson debuted last spring, but he still carries rookie status for 2026-27, and Washington is counting on him for a lot more than trick shots.

He was the Capitals’ second-round pick, 43rd overall, back in 2024. From there he spent two years at Boston University and put up 24 goals and 56 assists, earning AHCA East First Team All-American honors in both seasons.

Hutson signed his entry-level deal once BU’s season wrapped and jumped straight into the lineup. He debuted March 18 against Ottawa and scored his first NHL goal that same night, an empty-netter in the final minute of a 4-1 win. Across 14 games he added three goals and seven assists.

He marked the signing on Instagram this spring:

The bloodlines run deep here. His older brother Lane Hutson won the Calder Trophy in 2024-25 with Montreal, piling up 60 assists and helping the Canadiens back into the playoffs. Cole is chasing the same kind of arrival.

DraftKings has him tied for third in the 2026-27 Calder race, sitting behind Flyers prospect Porter Martone.

Hutson isn’t the only Cap turning heads away from the rink this summer. Alex Ovechkin has been busy too.

An ace in July, an empty-netter in his debut. Hutson keeps finding ways to score.
