Casey Mittelstadt is heading into the final year of his contract in Boston, and the Bruins have not called about a new one.
Asked about his situation at training camp this week, Mittelstadt said nothing has been discussed beyond this season.
“I’ve loved it here. I love the guys and I love the way we want to play. You never know what happens. It’s a business. But I love it here.”
The comments came after the second day of on-ice sessions, with Elias Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy taking their turns right after him. Watch the full media availability:
Last season was his first full year in Boston after the 2025 deadline trade that brought him in from Colorado, and he finished with 17 goals and 25 assists in 71 games. The 27-year-old carries a $5.75 million cap hit and becomes an unrestricted free agent next July if nothing gets signed.
Pavel Zacha is part of why the phone has stayed quiet. He is a pending UFA too, and he is the bigger priority in Boston after a career-high 30 goals and 65 points in 78 games.

Mittelstadt can slide to center when Boston needs him there, and that kind of flexibility tends to widen a market. A modest bump to around $6.5 million is the safe projection. Anything above that and the Bruins may not be able to keep both him and Zacha.
