Tim Washe Extension: Ducks Commit Four Years to a 4th-Liner

Tim Washe just got paid.

The Ducks signed the 25-year-old center to a four-year extension Saturday, a deal that kicks in for 2027-28 and runs through 2030-31. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman put the terms at $9 million total, a $2.25 million cap hit.

That is real money for a player with 41 NHL games on his resume. Washe has two goals and five points in those 41 appearances, averaging 11:50 a night with a minus-6 rating and 95 hits.

What Anaheim is paying for shows up in the dot. Washe finished second among NHL rookies in faceoff percentage last season at 58.0, winning 225 of 388 draws and leading the Ducks outright. He is also 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. Bottom-six centers who win draws at that clip and take up that much room are not easy to find.

His first NHL goal came Jan. 16 in Los Angeles, a quick wrist shot off the boards past Darcy Kuemper in a game Anaheim won 3-2 in a shootout. He dressed for all 12 of the Ducks’ playoff games last spring and picked up an assist. Catch it in the highlights from that night:

Washe took the long road. He spent five years at Western Michigan and had 12 points total through his first four seasons, buried at the bottom of the lineup. The Broncos named him captain for 2024-25 and bumped him into the top six, and he responded with 16 goals and 38 points in 42 games.

Then he captained Western Michigan to the first national championship in program history:

Anaheim signed him as a college free agent days after that title run, then gave him a two-year deal worth $812,500 per season last summer. This one nearly triples it.

Cutter Gauthier got six years from this same front office earlier in September. Washe is the other end of that project. He turns 30 the summer this contract expires, and the Ducks clearly want the fourth line to be his until then.
