The Boston Bruins are down bad lately and went into Tuesday’s contest against the Edmonton Oilers on a four-game losing skid. Instead of coming out at home and making a statement, they did the exact opposite, getting completely outplayed in a deflating 4-0 defeat.

As we all know, Boston fans can be harsh, no matter what sport. Well, they clearly saw enough after the Bruins lost once again, booing their team off the ice at the TD Garden.

Not a pretty scene. That will be a real wake-up call for Boston, who are now 20-18-5. While Joe Sacco’s squad is still in third place in the always competitive Atlantic Division, they need to turn things around in a hurry.

Sacco was not pleased with what he saw on Tuesday, putting the Bruins on blast postgame. Via Bruins.com:

“We have to find some solutions right now,” head coach Joe Sacco said. “They were certainly playing at a higher level than we were right at the drop of the puck.”

He added, “We pretty much got what we deserved here tonight.”

Not only did the boos rain down, but supporters also chanted for the organization to fire GM Don Sweeney. Former boss Jim Montgomery was of course let go on November 19.

It won’t get any easier for the struggling Bruins, either. They face the Tampa Bay Lightning twice between January 9 and January 14 while also visiting the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

Only five points separate Boston in third and the Detroit Red Wings in seventh place. If they don’t start to improve, things could go downhill very quickly for a franchise with high expectations every season. That would almost certainly result in Sweeney and other front-office figures losing their jobs.
