Brock Faber took a puck to the head Friday night, and the Wild aren’t ready to call it nothing.
Faber went down briefly in the second period of Minnesota’s 2-1 preseason finale loss to Dallas after a shot from the point deflected up and caught him with 9:36 left in the frame. He skated to the bench under his own power, came back for his next shift and played out the rest of the period. He sat out the third.
Wild coach John Hynes was asked about Faber’s status after the game.
“Some of it was precautionary,” Hynes said. “It’s always a concern when you have a guy that you have to keep him out for precautionary reasons. But as I said, we don’t know if it’s anything major or not.”
Quinn Hughes, Faber’s usual defense partner, had his own scare earlier in the game when he crashed hard into the goalpost chasing Roope Hintz. He shook it off and stayed in the lineup. Watch the collision here:
Minnesota opens the regular season Thursday at Nashville, and Faber isn’t a player the Wild can afford to be without. He signed an eight-year, $68 million extension in 2024 and turned in a career year last season, putting up 51 points in 80 games before adding 10 more in 11 playoff games.
Friday’s finale had plenty going on beyond the injury scares. The same game featured the Jamie Benn-Marcus Foligno brawl and Tyler Seguin’s return from a torn ACL.
Hynes and the Wild have five days to sort out how serious this is before puck drop in Nashville.
