Austin Wagner is taking his game to Germany.
The former Los Angeles Kings forward has signed a one-year contract with Löwen Frankfurt of the DEL, per Pro Hockey Rumors. The 29-year-old will wear No. 91 for the Frankfurt club this coming season.
Wagner last suited up in the NHL during the 2022-23 season. He has 178 career games at the top level, with his best run coming in 2018-19 when he scored a career-high 12 goals for the Kings.
The last three years have taken him all over the hockey map. He spent 2023-24 in Sweden with IK Oskarshamn of the SHL, where he put up 13 points in 34 games and led the entire league in penalty minutes.
From there he headed back to North America for a season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. Last year he landed in the KHL with the Shanghai Dragons, posting eight goals and nine assists across 57 games.
Now he gets his first crack at Germany’s top league. Speed and a physical edge have been Wagner’s calling card since his junior days with the Regina Pats, and Frankfurt is betting that still travels.
Wagner joins a growing list of NHL names heading overseas this summer. That group already includes goaltender Jakub Skarek, who signed with Straubing in the same league.
