A.J. Greer is out of the Ducks lineup after the hit that ended his night Sunday.

Anaheim placed the winger on injured reserve with an upper-body injury Monday and recalled forward Nico Myatovic from the San Diego Gulls. The Ducks did not say how long Greer will be out.

The injury traces back to the third period of Anaheim’s 6-3 win over Ottawa. Senators forward Dylan Cozens caught Greer high just after Greer passed the puck, with just over nine minutes left. Greer stayed down for several seconds, then got up and went straight at Cozens before officials stepped in. Watch the sequence:

Cozens was given a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct, and the call stood after a review. Greer picked up a two-minute unsportsmanlike penalty for his reaction and did not play again.

The league is not planning to take it further. Jeff Marek of The Sheet confirmed that Cozens will not receive supplemental discipline from the Department of Player Safety, so the ejection is the only punishment.

Greer had been finding a groove. He had four goals and five points with a +4 rating over his previous seven games after a quiet start, and he was averaging 13:47 a night in that stretch. He also already has 28 penalty minutes this season, including a fight with Hunter McDonald on Oct. 24.

Myatovic gets the opening. The 21-year-old was a second-round pick in 2023 and was one of the last forwards cut in camp. He has five goals and eight points in 11 games with the Gulls.

The hit came during Ottawa’s collapse, when the Senators blew a 3-0 lead behind a Cutter Gauthier hat trick. Anaheim visits Vancouver on Tuesday.
