The Minnesota Wild continue to do good business as they prepare for the beginning of the 2025-26 NHL season.

Just days after Kirill Kaprizov received a record-breaking $136 million contract extension, the franchise has also locked up No. 1 goaltender Filip Gustavsson. The Swede inked a new deal worth $34 million across five years. It will kick in during the 2026-27 campaign.

This new contract will pay Gustavsson $6.8 million annually. He’s currently set to make $3.7 million this season, per Puckpedia. Needless to say, he’s getting a significant pay raise.

The 27-year-old had a wonderful 2024-25 campaign. He started all 58 games he featured in, compiling a 31-19-6 record and posting a 2.56 GAA. Gustavsson was third in the league in shutouts, keeping five clean sheets.

It’s been a productive offseason for the Wild. Aside from handing Kaprizov a mammoth deal, they also re-signed Marco Rossi, who was the target of trade rumors for a lot of the offseason.

However, Vladimir Tarasenko and Mats Zuccarello will be unrestricted free agents next summer and remain without new deals. Zuccarello is currently injured and will miss the first two months of the campaign.

Gustavsson and the Wild finished in fourth place in the Central Division last season, losing in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Vegas Golden Knights. Health will be key for Minny if they’re going to make a deep playoff run, and having Gustavsson playing quality hockey in between the sticks will also be important.

With this new deal, he’s now under contract in Minnesota through 2031.
