Fighting is on the decline in today’s NHL, and goalie fights are now a particularly rare occurrence. So it was quite the occasion when Sergei Bobrovsky raced down the ice to fight fellow goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic in the third period of Monday night’s game.

The Sharks were leading the Panthers 3-1 in Florida, in what was a physical game for the cross-conference squads. Six minutes into the third period, Vincent Desharnais tripped Mackie Samoskevich along the boards, and the teams got into a scrum in the corner.

Nedeljkovic came out of his crease to get into it behind his own net, and it didn’t take long for Bobrovsky to come racing down to join the festivities.

Bobrovsky shook his catching glove and blocker off, but questionably kept his mask on. He quickly took off Nedeljkovic’s mask, and the Sharks’ netminder returned the favor as the two tangled.

Neither goalie really got many good shots in, but Nedeljkovic ended up on top of his goaltending brethren.

The Sharks’ bench absolutely loved it!

Bobrovsky and Nedeljkovic each received two-minute minors for leaving the crease and five-minute majors for fighting.

It’s always a spectacle when two goalies decide to go at it. Even the skaters are usually shocked by it and stop the scrum to watch the action. And while it may not have been one of the best goalie fights of all time, it’s good to see Bobrovsky and Nedeljkovic go at it.
