Trent Frederic and Jack McBain traded some real punches Saturday night in Utah.
The Oilers forward and the Mammoth center dropped the gloves at 16:18 of the first period with Edmonton leading 3-0. Watch the fight:
Both players got five-minute fighting majors. McBain had been laying hits on Frederic earlier in the period, including two about 25 seconds apart at the midway point, and he finished the night with eight hits.
This one had some history behind it. McBain was called for boarding Leon Draisaitl in the second period of Thursday’s game, and he also hit Connor McDavid twice in that one. Utah won 4-2, the Oilers’ first regulation loss of the season.
Frederic is no stranger to this. He fought Ryan Lindgren on Oct. 3 over his May hit on Evan Bouchard.
The Oilers went on to win 6-2. McDavid had two goals and three assists, and Zach Hyman scored his first of the season in his return from a six-game absence. Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin each had two points.
Edmonton is back at Rogers Place on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild.
