Things were looking up in Toronto. The Maple Leafs took care of business in the first round against the Ottawa Senators — albeit in a few more games than they’d have liked — and got out to a roaring 2-0 start in their series against the Florida Panthers.

However, the reigning Stanley Cup champions stormed back from a 3-1 deficit in Game 3 to win in overtime, and they haven’t lost since. In fact, the Maple Leafs didn’t score for 143 minutes and 25 seconds before Nicolas Robertson scored late in Game 5.

Things came to a head at the end of the second period on Wednesday night with the Maple Leafs players getting booed off the ice by their fans. It was a 4-0 game, and it somehow felt like a wider margin than that.

Things went from bad to worse in the third period. Fourth-line forward A.J. Greer scored his first career playoff goal to make it 5-0, and the fans headed for the exits.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an embarrassing loss in Toronto without a Maple Leafs jersey or two hitting the ice.

And to put the cherry on top, imagine being this Leafs fan getting chirped by Brad Marchand as he headed to the locker room.

The Leafs now trail 3-2 in the series after their third consecutive loss. It’s time to put up or shut up for the Maple Leafs’ core.

Game 6 is set for Friday night in Sunrise, Florida.
