- Jason Robertson scored in his sixth straight playoff game, a new Dallas Stars franchise record
- He surpassed Milan Marcetta and Steve Payne, who each had five-game postseason streaks
- Read below for how Robertson’s goal helped push Dallas to a 4-3 double-overtime win over the Wild
Jason Robertson just put his name into the Dallas Stars history books with one of those quiet-but-devastating goals in the first period.
The 26-year-old winger scored at 13:48 of the first period in Game 3 against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night, a snap shot from the right face-off circle that beat Jesper Wallstedt under the glove. That tally gave Dallas a 2-0 lead and marked Robertson’s sixth straight playoff game with a goal dating back to last spring.
That’s a new franchise record. Robertson moved ahead of Milan Marcetta and Steve Payne, who each put together five-game playoff goal streaks earlier in Stars history, according to ESPN Insights.
Robertson finished the night with a goal and two assists, his third straight multi-point game in the series. He also set up Mikko Rantanen on the opening power-play goal just 1:25 into the first period, giving Dallas the early lead in what turned into a track meet at Grand Casino Arena.
The Wild clawed all the way back. Marcus Johansson cut it to 2-1 late in the first. Joel Eriksson Ek tied the game in the second, and Michael McCarron put Minnesota ahead 3-2 in the third with his first career playoff goal.
Matt Duchene answered with a power-play equalizer at 10:18 of the third to force overtime, and Wyatt Johnston tipped home the eventual winner at 12:10 of double overtime to give the Stars a 4-3 win and a 2-1 series lead.
Here are the full highlights from Game 3:
“You look around the League, it comes down to (special teams),” Robertson said. “Every team is so tight, every team defends hard. You’ve got to take advantage when you can.”
Dallas went 3-for-8 on the power play. Robertson’s opener and his assists on the Rantanen and Duchene tallies all came with the man advantage.
Game 4 is Saturday night back in St. Paul at 5:30 p.m. ET. Robertson has a shot at stretching the streak to seven.
