The 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs are here, and the goalscoring is underway.

The St. Louis Blues went on a miraculous run in the second half of the season to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so it’s only fitting that they were the first team to score this postseason.

The Blues got a power play in the first half of the first period, and it didn’t take them long to find the back of the net.

Robert Thomas was open in the circle, and he made no mistake about it as he sniped a goal to open the scoring.

The goal came 9:31 into the first period, just 39 seconds after Luke Schenn was called for the game’s first penalty. Cam Fowler and Pavel Buchnevich picked up helpers on the opening goal.

But the Jets answered back quickly.

Winnipeg got a power play of its own and needed just 16 seconds on the man advantage to tie things up.

Jets center Mark Scheifele attempted to put the puck in front, and it ended up bouncing off of Blues defenseman Ryan Suter and into the net.

The Jets and Blues traded a goal each after that as well to head into the first intermission tied 2-2.

Thomas had 81 points (21 goals, 60 assists) in 70 games this regular season to lead his team and is one of a few Blues players remaining from their 2019 Stanley Cup win.

Scheifele was also a point-per-game player this season with 87 points (39 goals, 48 assists) in 82 games. He was second to Kyle Connor in all three categories, and the Jets’ leading scorer picked up the primary assist on the opening marker.

The Jets will need their top guns to step up as Nikolaj Ehlers is week-to-week with a foot injury.
