New York’s roster reset isn’t over.
Vincent Trocheck is headed to the Utah Mammoth. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the deal Wednesday, with the Rangers getting defenseman Sean Durzi, forward prospect Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick in return.
Utah lands a proven middle-six center who just helped Team USA win Olympic gold. Trocheck put up 53 points (16 goals, 37 assists) in 67 games for the Rangers last season, and he has three years left on his contract at a $5.625 million cap hit.
Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong talked about what the veteran brings to the lineup.
“He’ll do anything for his teammates,” Armstrong said. “He’s good off the draw. He’s a right-handed draw. He can get in the bumper and score some goals.”
There’s a personal angle too. Trocheck spends his summers training with Utah forward Logan Cooley, and Armstrong said Cooley was thrilled when the trade went through.
Here’s the full breakdown of the deal:
For the Rangers, this is the latest domino in a busy offseason that already brought in Marcus Pettersson. Durzi, 27, carries a $6 million cap hit for two more seasons and posted 27 points in 60 games last year.
Beaudoin gives New York a real prospect. The 20-year-old captained the OHL’s Barrie Colts and racked up 88 points in 54 games after going in the back half of the first round in 2024.
The Mammoth wanted a center who’s been through the playoff grind. They got one.
