The Predators are taking a swing on a former 24-goal scorer.
Nashville acquired forward Nils Hoglander from the Canucks on Monday for a 2029 third-round pick that originally belonged to Colorado. Rick Dhaliwal was first to report it:
Here’s the official word from the club:
GM Chris MacFarland explained what Nashville sees in the 25-year-old winger:
“We are excited to add Nils Hoglander to our mix. He is a 25-year-old experienced winger who is known for his relentless, high-energy style of play, bringing a consistent motor to the lineup night after night. We believe the player can come in and have a key role.”
The upside is real. Hoglander potted a career-high 24 goals in 2023-24 and looked like a long-term piece in Vancouver.
Watch the kind of finish that made him a fan favorite on the West Coast:
The production dried up after that. He managed eight goals in 72 games during 2024-25, then just two goals in 38 appearances last season.
Vancouver drafted Hoglander in the second round in 2019 and broke him into the league as a 20-year-old. Over six NHL seasons he averages 15 goals and 15 assists per 82 games. The deal is the latest move in the Canucks’ busy offseason reshuffle.
For Nashville, the math is friendly. Hoglander has two years left at a $3 million cap hit and becomes a free agent in 2028.
He is also the fourth forward MacFarland has added in his first offseason running the Predators, joining Ross Colton, Jack Drury and Adam Edstrom. Bet on the 24-goal version showing up and the third-rounder looks like a steal.
