Alex Ovechkin’s offseason work is already underway. Kind of.
The Capitals captain crashed the NHL’s booth at Fanatics Fest NYC on Saturday, surprising fans at the Javits Center with an unannounced drop-in and a few turns at the league’s hockey activations.
First up was the Shoot and Score challenge, where players fire pucks through a small cutout at the bottom of the net. Ovechkin picked pucks off from a few different spots and made it look routine, even burying one with another puck sitting in the way.
Plenty of big names took their cracks at the same booth over the weekend:
From there, Ovechkin walked over to the DroneCam 360 setup, grabbed a replica Stanley Cup and lifted it over his head. He’s held the real one before, back in 2018, when he won the Conn Smythe as MVP of the playoffs.
Here’s a look at the 360 booth in action:
There’s no sign of the 40-year-old slowing down. Ovechkin led Washington with 64 points last season and didn’t miss a single game, then re-upped on a one-year deal to come back for his 22nd NHL season.
He’s the league’s all-time goals leader at 929 and counting, having blown past Wayne Gretzky’s mark of 894 back in April 2025. One number still sits in front of him. Ovechkin has 1,006 career goals counting the playoffs, 10 shy of Gretzky’s combined total of 1,016.
Ten more this season and the last big scoring record with Gretzky’s name on it belongs to Ovechkin too.
