Edmonton is hanging onto one of its more promising college additions. The Oilers re-signed forward Owen Michaels to a two-year contract worth $900,000 per season, the team announced.
Michaels isn’t a name most fans know yet, but the resume speaks up. He took home Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player honors in 2025, when Western Michigan won the first national championship in program history.
Here’s the announcement from the Oilers:
That title run was no fluke. He scored four goals across the Frozen Four, two of them in the championship game against Boston University, and his double-overtime winner in the semifinal ended defending champion Denver’s season.

The video is a good reminder of why Edmonton moved fast to keep him.
Over three seasons with the Broncos, Michaels put up 69 points in 119 games. He captained the team this past year and earned Hobey Baker finalist honors along the way.
Edmonton signed him to his entry-level deal in April and clearly wanted more. The two-year extension fits a steady offseason for the Oilers, who recently re-signed defenseman Spencer Stastney to a one-year deal.
Now Michaels gets a real runway to turn that college scoring touch into an NHL job.
