Martin Necas has his first 100-point season.
The Avalanche forward picked up an assist on Nathan MacKinnon’s empty-net goal in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames, pushing him to the century mark for the first time in his career.
Necas came into the night needing just one point after being held scoreless in Monday’s shootout win over Edmonton. He didn’t have to wait long for history.
Gabriel Landeskog scored the go-ahead goal at 15:07 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie. Artturi Lehkonen also scored for Colorado. MacKinnon sealed it with his league-leading 53rd goal into the empty net, and Necas got the helper to make it official.
Cale Makar, back in the lineup after missing seven games with an upper-body injury, assisted on all three Avalanche goals. That’s a quiet way to announce you’re playoff-ready.
Before the season, Necas talked about what the milestone would mean to him:
Only two Czech-born players have done it before him. Jaromir Jagr and David Pastrnak are the only others to crack 100 in a single NHL season. That’s elite company for a guy who was stuck in the 70-point range just two years ago in Carolina.
The trade that brought Necas to Colorado in exchange for Mikko Rantanen in January 2025 looked like a gamble at the time. It doesn’t look like one anymore. Necas signed an eight-year, $92 million extension and has completely transformed his game playing alongside MacKinnon.
His previous career high was 71 points with Carolina in 2022-23. He blew past that weeks ago.
Necas now joins Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, MacKinnon, and Rantanen as the only players in Avalanche history to hit 100 points in a season. The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche already clinched the top seed in the West, but milestones like this one show just how deep this roster runs heading into the playoffs.
Colorado improved to 54-16-11 on the season with the win. They close out the regular season with one game remaining.
