Evgeni Malkin’s house in Pittsburgh was robbed over the weekend. And no, before you ask, this isn’t another Marc-Andre Fleury prank.
According to KDKA’s Jennifer Borrasso, the Penguins superstar’s Sewickley Heights home was broken into on Saturday while he was at PPG Paints Arena watching his team face the Ottawa Senators. Multiple sources confirmed that thieves made off with Malkin’s three Stanley Cup championship rings from 2009, 2016, and 2017.

Here’s where it gets even more suspicious: reports say Malkin’s security system and cameras were mysteriously offline during the break-in. The burglars kicked in the back door, found his safe open, and stole the rings — three irreplaceable pieces of Penguins history.
Fortunately, Neither Malkin’s wife Anna Kasterova nor their son Nikita were home at the time.
The 911 call was made a few hours after the Penguins’ 4pm game started. Allegheny County Police are currently investigating the burglary but have not yet identified any suspects. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The Penguins confirmed the incident in a statement:
“Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin’s home was burglarized this past weekend. Details of the situation will not be made public as this is an ongoing investigation. We are working closely with local authorities and team security. Malkin has requested that his privacy be respected during this time and we will have no further comment on the matter.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated case. The FBI recently warned professional sports leagues about sophisticated burglary rings specifically targeting star athletes. Malkin is now part of a growing list of victims: Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars had his house hit in 2024, and NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were also targeted last year.
Law enforcement sources say these aren’t random acts. The thieves specifically target superstar players, often striking when they know the athletes will be competing. They specifically target homes they believe contain high-end goods like designer handbags, jewelry, and watches.
It’s an unfortunate situation for the 38-year-old Malkin, who has spent his entire 18-year NHL career with the Penguins. Despite a slight decline in production this season (8 goals, 24 assists in 41 games), Geno is forever a Pittsburgh legend.
The investigation is ongoing, and we’ll keep you updated as more details emerge about the theft of Malkin’s championship hardware. For now, it’s another reminder that even NHL superstars aren’t immune to this growing wave of organized crime targeting pro athletes.
