Lane Hutson is the lightest player in the NHL this season.

The Canadiens defenseman is listed at 162 pounds, the lowest number on a rundown of the league’s lightest players posted Friday by roster tracker NHL Rosters:

Gavin McKenna is right behind him at 164 pounds. The No. 1 overall pick is 18 years old and only two games into his NHL career, a stretch that already included a botched rookie lap courtesy of Sergei Bobrovsky.

Logan Stankoven rounds out the top three at 165 pounds. The 5-foot-8 Hurricanes forward has company in Carolina, with Nikolaj Ehlers sitting sixth at 168.

Minnesota owns this list more than anyone. Jared Spurgeon (166), Maxim Shabanov (167) and Bobby Brink (169) give the Wild three of the seven lightest players in the league.

Philadelphia lands two of its own. Denver Barkey checks in at 171, and Matvei Michkov is part of a three-way tie at 172 with Nikita Kucherov and Jordan Binnington.

Binnington is the lone goalie in the group. NHL.com’s roster data also lists Flames goalie Dustin Wolf at 166 pounds, which would slot him in at fourth.

None of this has slowed Hutson down. He won the Calder Trophy in 2024-25 and followed it up with 78 points (12 goals, 66 assists) in 82 games last season.

NHL Rosters posted the other end of the scale a day earlier. Rangers forward Matt Rempe sits at the top of that list at 268 pounds, which is 106 pounds more than Hutson:

Toronto shows up on both lists. McKenna is the second-lightest player in the league, while his teammate Anthony Stolarz ranks fifth among the heaviest at 248 pounds.
