The Leafs added another name to their GM list on Monday.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on the “32 Thoughts” podcast that Toronto has interviewed Dallas Stars assistant general manager Scott White for the vacancy left by Brad Treliving’s firing in March. It’s the latest move in a wide-ranging search run by MLSE CEO Keith Pelley.

Friedman’s full segment on the search is below.

White, 58, has been in Dallas since 2005. He started with the Stars’ AHL affiliate as director of hockey operations and climbed to assistant GM under Jim Nill, the 2023 Jim Gregory GM of the Year. Friedman described him as a trusted lieutenant who handles a bit of everything, from contract negotiations to running the AHL club.

“Scott White, the assistant GM in Dallas, is someone I’ve thought for some time would eventually get a chance,” Friedman said. “He’s not a guy who walks into a room and dominates it, but he’s a bright mind. He’s one of those jack-of-all-trades types we often talk about.”

Before the front-office work, White was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in 1986 and spent five seasons in North American minor pro leagues without cracking the NHL.

He’s one of several names in Toronto’s mix. Islanders AGM Ryan Bowness, Mike Gillis, and Chris Pronger have all come up. Sunny Mehta was another candidate before the Devils hired him as their GM.

Nashville is also interested in White, and the Canucks could call once they restart their search after firing Patrik Allvin. Friedman and Frank Seravalli both think something substantial could move by the end of this week.

Treliving got cut loose after three seasons and a disappointing finish. Pelley said at the time he wanted a “data-centric” operator. Brandon Pridham and Ryan Hardy are holding the front office together in the meantime.

Pelley has floated a target of late May or early June. For more on Treliving’s firing, our earlier coverage has the full story. White’s full biographical background is on his Wikipedia page.
