The Winnipeg Jets were down, but not out.
Facing a 3-2 deficit through two periods at home in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, some Winnipeg fans must’ve been having déjà vu. The Jets had been a great regular-season team in years past, only to get upset in the first round.
It looked like that might be the case again with the Cinderella Story that is the St. Louis Blues taking 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 leads in Winnipeg.
Then the Jets did what they did all year long: dominate the third period.
The Blues were held to just two shots on goal in the final frame while the Jets scored not once or twice but three times to win Game 1 by a final score of 5-3.
First, it was Alex Iafallo tying the game 3-3 midway through the third period. The Jets had already squandered a few power-play chances in the game, but the winger put home a great pass from Mark Scheifele in front to tie it up.

Scheifele scored the Jets’ first goal of the game and had the primary assist on the game-tying goal, but he wasn’t done.
With the game looking like it was headed for overtime to open up the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Kyle Connor had other plans. The Jets’ leading scorer one-timed home a great pass from Scheifele for the game-winning goal with 96 seconds remaining.

The Blues pulled Jordan Binnington for the extra attacker in an attempt to tie the game themselves, but that just gave Adam Lowry a chance to put an exclamation mark on the win in a raucous building.
And things only got louder with some rough stuff at the end of the game.
