Corey Perry is on his way to the very same team he helped eliminate in each of the last two seasons, with the Edmonton Oilers.

The veteran is signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Kings, as reported by TSN’s Bob McKenzie:

Per Pierre LeBrun, the contract is worth $3.5 million, plus more money in performance bonuses. Perry reportedly wanted to run it back with the Oilers, and they reportedly offered him a deal, but instead, the 40-year-old hit the open market, and he landed with a Pacific Division rival.

Perry was on the wrong side of history once again in 2025, losing in his fifth Stanley Cup final. He heads to a Kings team with serious promise after they finished second in the division in the 24-25 regular season. But, Los Angeles failed to get past Edmonton, and that could once again be an issue next year.

Regardless, Perry gives the Kings another experienced leader both on and off the ice. The winger had 19 goals and 11 assists for the Oilers this past season in 81 games. He also did his part in the playoffs, contributing 14 points, including 10 goals.

With this new deal, Perry is getting a substantial pay raise. He made under $2 million last season and will nearly double that number in 2025-26, depending on the incentives. Perry proved his worth with Edmonton over the last two seasons, but the organization’s cap situation clearly prevented them from offering Perry what he believed he deserved in free agency.

Hopefully, this deal works out for the Kings, but Perry isn’t exactly young anymore. That being said, if he can stay healthy, this signing could work out nicely for Los Angeles.
