Keanu Reaves can do it all.
Legendary Canadian movie star Keanu Reaves has signed a one-day contract with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. The junior hockey team announced the news on their social media accounts Thursday night.
In a moment of happenstance, the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club were finally able to add this former Ontario Hockey League goalie prospect, turned Dogstar bass player, to their roster with a one day contract! Welcome to the #YQG Keanu Reeves!

Reeves is returning to his hockey roots, as he was once a goalie prospect in the OHL. Although he never played for Windsor, Reeves was going to sign with the team before an injury occurred. At that point in his life, Reeves turned to acting and never looked back.
This story has an extra element of coolness, as Reeves’ jersey, along with a copy of the contract, are set to be auctioned off for charity. The proceeds will benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor-Essex.

Reeves, who grew up in Toronto, is currently in town for a show at Caesar’s Windsor. The actor took this opportunity to sign with the Spitfires, fulfilling a symbolic dream of playing in the OHL, albeit briefly.
Here’s the statement from the Windsor Spitfires, courtesy of their website:
“In a moment of happenstance, the Windsor Spitfires were finally able to add former OHL goalie prospect Keanu Reeves, turned Dogstar bass player, to their roster with a one-day contract! Keanu’s jersey and a copy of his contract will be auctioned with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor-Essex.”
This actually isn’t Reeves’ first brush-in with hockey following his playing days. His first major film role was as a hockey goalie in the movie “Youngblood” in 1986. Windsor GM Bowler joked if Reeves is “half the goalie he was in Youngblood,” the Spitfires should do well this season.
The more we read about Reeves, the more we find ourselves loving this man. The 59-year-old is reportedly one of the best actors in Hollywood to work with — from donating money to his crew to lugging equipment between takes. Not to mention, Reeves’ $31.5 million donation to cancer research.
He may be an over-ager in the OHL, but we’d take Keanu Reaves on our hockey team any day of the week.
