Jordan Kyrou finally got on the board in Washington.
Kyrou won it 11 seconds into overtime Friday, catching Jakob Chychrun’s return feed and snapping it past the post for a 3-2 win over the Bruins at Capital One Arena. It was his first goal since the Capitals acquired him from the Blues on June 23 in the trade that sent Connor McMichael, Milton Gastrin and a first-round pick back to St. Louis.
Dylan Strome set the tone for Washington. He tapped in a Tom Wilson rebound on the power play to make it 1-0 late in the first period. Watch the goal:
Wilson doubled the lead early in the second, backhanding home a Strome feed that deflected off Pierre-Luc Dubois’ skate on the power play. Take a look:
Boston answered in the third period of its preseason finale. Morgan Geekie cut the deficit to 2-1, and David Pastrnak tied it with a power-play one-timer off a Pavel Zacha feed. Check out Pastrnak’s tying goal:
That was more than enough. Logan Thompson made 20 saves for Washington, which improved to 2-0-1 in the preseason, and Jeremy Swayman stopped 32 shots for Boston (2-2-0), which opens the regular season at home against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Friday wrapped up the preseason slate for four teams around the league.
Seguin was asked about getting back into game action for the Stars in their preseason finale, his first appearance since tearing his ACL in Dallas’ Dec. 2 overtime loss at the Rangers.
“It’s great. Feels like your first game all over again,” Seguin said. “In one way it’s nice to get that out of the way, in another way it was just so much fun.”

- Avalanche 5, Jets 2: T.J. Hughes had a hat trick and an assist, and Cale Makar and Jaden Schwartz also scored for Colorado. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 24 shots
- Rangers 6, Islanders 1: Mika Zibanejad and J.T. Miller each had a goal and an assist, and Adam Fox added three assists as New York closed out its preseason slate
Washington was the lone winner among Friday’s four preseason finales, and Kyrou now has a goal in the books before Monday’s opening night roster cuts.
