- The Jets could be without an important player for the start of the playoffs
- Nikolaj Ehlers is battling a foot injury
- Read below to see what head coach Scott Arniel had to say about Ehlers
The Winnipeg Jets head into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a legitimate contender, but there’s a chance one of their top guys won’t be ready to go in round one.
Nikolaj Ehlers re-aggravated a foot injury on Saturday evening when he backed into an official, and head coach Scott Arniel said Tuesday that Ehlers is considered week-to-week moving forward.

Here’s a look at the injury from the weekend:
As you can see, Ehlers was in a lot of pain and had to be helped off the ice, going straight to the locker room.
“They just ran into each other. It was a tough play, especially to lose him on that situation,” Arniel said. “It wasn’t a blocked shot. … It was a freak accident.”
Well, that freak accident could cause the Jets star to miss some time here. Week-to-week is pretty broad, which means he may be ready to roll for round one or possibly not at all. Ehlers already missed time at the end of 2024 with a lower-body injury, ultimately returning in mid-December.
The 29-year-old is having a solid campaign for the Presidents’ Trophy winners, ranking third on the team in points with 63. He’s scored 24 goals while tallying 39 helpers as well. Ehlers is a consistent producer for the Jets and has been for many years.
Winnipeg is awaiting to see who they will face in the first round of the playoffs. They’re set to take on the second Wild Card team, but it remains to be seen if that will be the St. Louis Blues or the Minnesota Wild. The Calgary Flames still also have a chance at making the postseason and could potentially be an opponent for the Jets.
