The Canadiens have traded defenseman Jayden Struble to the Nashville Predators.
Montreal gets a 2027 second-round pick in return. It’s the Vegas pick, which Nashville picked up in 2025 in the Nic Hague deal, per Daily Faceoff.
Here’s the Predators’ announcement:
Struble is 25 and in the second season of a two-year, $2.825 million deal that carries a $1.4125 million cap hit. He’s played three games this season without a point and is averaging a career-low 12:05 of ice time.
Predators GM Chris MacFarland talked about what he’s getting in the release.
“Jayden Struble is a 25-year-old physical defender who will add mobility and a hard-to-play against quality that will help our backend,” MacFarland said. “We are excited to watch his growth and look forward to him being a player who can grow with us.”
The Canadiens put out their own announcement on the pick coming back:
Montreal took Struble 46th overall in 2019 out of St. Sebastian’s School and he turned pro after four years at Northeastern. He has seven goals and 35 points in 174 games with the Habs, plus 14 playoff games without a point.
His minutes have dropped every year since he broke in with 56 games in 2023-24. That fits a team that has Lane Hutson and Noah Dobson running the top of the blue line.
We had it right away on our timeline too:
Nashville has a crowded back end with Roman Josi, Brady Skjei, Hague, Nick Perbix and Ilya Lyubushkin, and William Trudeau just went on injured reserve. Struble could get a look quickly. The Predators are 2-1-1 and play the Senators on Saturday.
Montreal is also dealing with goalie news after we reported Samuel Montembeault is out up to two weeks.
