Joey Larson earned another look.

The Islanders re-signed the undrafted forward to a two-year, two-way contract on Wednesday, keeping one of Bridgeport’s top scorers in the organization for the next two seasons.

The club confirmed the deal:

Larson is coming off the best season of his pro career. He scored 17 goals and added 11 assists in 63 games with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders, a 28-point year that earned him a qualifying offer at the end of June.

That two-way structure lets him move between New York and Bridgeport without the Isles paying a full NHL salary every time he goes up. For a player still trying to lock down a lineup spot, the setup cuts both ways.

Michigan State’s former standout signed his first pro deal with New York after his junior year and has spent the time since chipping away at that undrafted label. Seventeen goals in the AHL is a decent answer to it.

This is a small line item in a busy Islanders summer, one built around locking up young cornerstone Matthew Schaefer. Larson gives the club cheap forward depth and a call-up option who can actually put the puck in the net.

If the Islanders run into injuries up front this season, he is near the front of the line.
