Nolan Foote is on the move again.

The Flyers signed the winger to a one-year, two-way contract, per PuckPedia, with the team yet to make it official. It’s a league-minimum deal worth $850,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 in the AHL.

This is Foote’s third organization in three years. The Devils non-tendered him last summer, he caught on with Florida on a free agent deal, and now he lands in Philadelphia. The 6-foot-3 winger gives the Flyers cheap forward depth as they keep reshaping the roster this offseason.

Foote spent most of last season in the minors. He put up 14 goals and 32 points in 54 games for the Charlotte Checkers, Florida’s AHL affiliate. Injuries up front opened a door in the spring, and Foote got into 12 NHL games, the most he’s played in a single season. He scored once.

Tampa Bay took Foote in the first round back in 2019, so the pedigree is there even if the NHL production hasn’t followed. He’s still only 25, and the two-way structure lets Philadelphia take a look with no real risk.

Hockey runs in the family. Nolan is the son of former NHL defenseman Adam Foote and the younger brother of Cal Foote.

The smart money has Foote opening the year with AHL Lehigh Valley. If the Flyers run into the same injury trouble up front that Florida did, he’ll get another crack at NHL minutes.
