The Bruins put a trade they never made on their own television show.
In the first episode of season 14 of Behind the B, a front office screen sits in the background of the free agency segment around the 12-minute mark. Filip Hronek’s name is on it. Headed the other way to Vancouver: defense prospect Liam Pettersson and Boston’s own first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.
Nobody in the episode says a word about it. The shot is blurry and slightly out of focus, but it was legible enough for viewers to freeze the frame and pass it around:

Boston’s need is not a secret. Since trading Brandon Carlo to Toronto, the Bruins have gone without a top-four right shot to take some weight off Charlie McAvoy. A deadline run at Rasmus Andersson fell apart and he wound up in Vegas.
They went small instead on July 1, sending two picks to the Rangers for William Borgen and signing Connor Clifton.
Hronek would have been the much bigger swing. The 28-year-old finished last season with 49 points, second on the Canucks behind Elias Pettersson, and led the team in ice time at exactly 25 minutes a night across all 82 games.
He is signed through eight years at a $7.25 million cap hit, and the contract carries a full no-move clause through 2028. Any trade needs his signoff, which makes the whiteboard exercise a lot more complicated than a couple of picks.
Liam Pettersson is a 19-year-old left-shot defenseman Boston took 61st overall in 2025. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, he splits this season between the SHL and Sweden’s U20 league.
Vancouver has given no sign it wants to move him anyway. Hronek said last month that he signed for eight years to see the rebuild through.
So the deal never got made. It just got filmed.
