Evander Kane has never had a problem saying the quiet part out loud.

The Canucks veteran joined American streamer N3on on May 14, and when N3on asked him which of the 32 NHL cities is the worst to play in, Kane didn’t soften the blow. He named Winnipeg.

“Worst city to play in? It’s a place I used to play: Winnipeg,” Kane said. “It’s not that it’s bad people [or] a bad hockey town. It’s a great hockey town. It’s just there’s not that much to do. You’re kind of right in the middle of Canada where there’s not any other major city around. It’s tough.”

His history in Winnipeg is well-documented. Kane arrived in 2011 when the Atlanta Thrashers relocated north and spent four seasons with the Jets. They traded him to Buffalo in February 2015 after a stretch of friction with local media and a famous Instagram photo of him stacking cash in Las Vegas.

N3on also asked Kane to name the NHL’s best player right now.

He didn’t blink.

“I think Connor’s just on a different level than everybody else,” Kane said. When N3on pointed out that “everyone says that,” Kane doubled down. “It’s tough to deny. He does everything. There’s other guys in the league that are kinda right there. But they’re missing that 10%, and Connor has that 10%.”

Here’s the clip:

Kane and McDavid spent parts of four seasons together in Edmonton before the Oilers shipped him to his hometown Canucks last June. McDavid still pulled in his sixth Art Ross Trophy with 138 points in Edmonton’s brutal 2025-26 season.

Edmonton got a much warmer review. Kane named Jack Campbell as his favorite teammate ever and said “there wasn’t really a bad guy on Edmonton.”

Vancouver missed the playoffs this season, and most around the league expect Kane to part ways with the Canucks this summer. A few more fan bases just got a sneak peek at where he might want to land.
