Evander Kane picked a fight without leaving his couch.
The unsigned winger and Sportsnet’s Mark Spector traded shots on X, and Kane closed his out by telling the reporter he might start crying.
Spector swung first, quoting a post Kane had shared that took aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci and the media over COVID-19 vaccines:
Kane didn’t let it sit. He went straight back at the longtime Oilers reporter and brought up a hallway confrontation from his Edmonton days.
“Imagine, Mark Spector with a idiotic take. The drama of it all,” Kane wrote. “I would say more but you might start crying like you did when I gave you a talking to outside the locker room. Don’t tell me you forgot.”
These two know each other well. Spector has covered the Oilers for Sportsnet for decades, and Kane spent four seasons in Edmonton after signing there in January 2022, before the Canucks acquired him last summer.
Vancouver never got the version of Kane it wanted. He scored 13 goals and put up 31 points in 71 games, finished minus-20 and racked up 92 penalty minutes.
There’s still no contract for 2026-27. Kane turned 35 on Aug. 2, and his career line reads 1,001 games, 339 goals and 648 points.
Russia has come calling, too. Ak Bars Kazan has been linked to him, which would send a 15-year NHL career somewhere almost nobody saw coming.
None of the noise on X changes the actual problem. Kane needs an NHL team to call before training camp.
